David Grojean, Boulder Colorado

I have committed myself fully to the art of painting for the last 20 years. It is my poetry. Through the ages, man has striven to go beyond the limits of the immediate physical world to create that which was not there before and thus nourish and exhilarate the human spirit. Our first record of man's perception of the world around him was through art scratched on cave walls, carved in stone, or molded in clay. Man's need to make, experience, and comprehend art is as profound as his need to speak. It is through art that we can understand ourselves and our potential. And it is through art, that we will be understood and remembered, by those who come after us.

After two years in the Marines, David Grojean attended the American University in Washington, D.C., where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design. Deciding against a career in design, he attended graduate school in Boulder. In the Spring of 1977, he received his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Colorado and committed himself fully to the art of painting.

David Grojean's work is presently shown in galleries throughout the Western United States, Canada, and Europe.

Artist Statement

I am in love with the circle, the rectangle, and the line.

I am enthralled and emotionally moved by textures.

Through these shapes and textures I create the poetry of my life.

Visual art is the creation of visual poetry. Poetry resides in the heart and the soul of every human being. It is the personality of the creator that must shine through so that a piece is not merely an object, but a personal statement.

I find me and I find God through my work.

I am Conduit through which the universe flows.

If I understood what my work was about, I would probably stop making it.
